• 🎉 September 2 Devotional: The Gift of Celebration

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights…”
    —James 1:17

Today is about celebration — and sometimes that’s its own kind of worship.

In the middle of ordinary Saturdays, laundry piles, and reheated coffee, God still gives us reasons to rejoice. A birthday is more than just cake and chaos — it’s a marker of His faithfulness, another year of breath, growth, and grace.

Whether it’s your child’s special day or just a pause to enjoy someone you love, know this: celebration isn’t extra. It’s essential.

Jesus showed up at weddings. He turned water into wine. He sat at crowded tables and laughed with friends. Joy matters. Life is worth celebrating — not because it’s perfect, but because it’s a gift.

    ✨ Reflect:

    • What can you thank God for in this season of life?
    • How has He shown up in the past year?

    🙏 Prayer:

God, thank You for today — for birthdays, for joy, for laughter, for another year of life. Help me celebrate well, and remember that every good and perfect gift comes from You. Let this day be light-filled, love-soaked, and grace-covered. Amen.

  • When I Called the Pastor by His First Name in Front of His Wife

Some stories just have to be told out loud, and this is one of them.

This past July, my six-year-old and I went to one of his classmate’s birthday parties. It was a typical summer scene — kids running wild with water guns, parents standing around in little circles, and me trying to balance conversation with keeping an eye on my child.

At one point, I found myself standing in a group of three moms. Our pastor wasn’t there; he was away on a church trip in Minnesota. But his wife was standing right there with us. We were talking casually, and without even realizing it, I called him by his first name. Just Marcus.

    Not Pastor Marcus. Just Marcus.

The funny thing is — no one reacted. The conversation went on. His wife didn’t say a word. And I didn’t even notice. Not until later that night, when I was cooking supper, did the thought replay in my head and I stopped mid-stir: Wait… did I actually call him Marcus? In front of his wife?

That’s when the delayed cringe set in.

    Why I’m Sharing This

On today’s episode of What Makes My Kid Cry Today, I tell the whole story — what it reminded me about titles, respect, and relationship. Because here’s the truth: honor matters, but so does remembering that pastors are people too.

It’s awkward, it’s funny, and it’s also a reminder of grace. Because our slips don’t define us — grace does.

    Looking Ahead

This companion post is just a taste of the story. On October 12, I’ll be sharing a full written blog post where I go deeper into what this moment taught me about words, honor, and humility. So if you like the episode today, be sure to come back for that fuller version!

  • September Meal Plan – Grace for the School Year and the Supper Table

    Dear Friend,

September brings back routines, backpacks, lost shoes, and lunchboxes that somehow always come home more smushed than filled. And if you’re anything like me, it also brings that familiar juggling act of feeding a family on a budget—while still wanting to make meals that nourish, comfort, and don’t take every ounce of your sanity.

Let’s be honest: some nights we’re scrambling eggs while scrambling to survive. But this month, I’m leaning into grace—grace for the mess, grace for the imperfect dinners, and grace for the tired mom staring into the pantry at 4:57 PM wondering what she can make before the toddler loses his mind.

This September meal plan isn’t about impressing anyone. It’s about faith-filled nourishment for real families. It’s budget-conscious, kid-tested (ahem—cried over), and husband-approved. And while I’m not promising miracles, I can say this: God shows up in the little things—including the grocery aisle and the stovetop.

So let’s plan well, pray often, and eat together.

     📖 Scripture of the Month:

📖 “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’” — 2 Corinthians 12:9a

    The Spiritual Side of Supper

There’s something sacred about the table—even the crumb-covered one you wiped five times today. Jesus met people at tables. He fed crowds, broke bread, and made space for those who felt tired and overlooked. Sound familiar?

You, mama, are doing holy work when you stir the pot, fold the napkins, and offer grace (even when the toddler throws peas on the floor).

This isn’t just a meal plan—it’s a reminder: God is present in the practical.

You don’t need gourmet. You need God’s daily bread. And some days, that bread looks like Aldi-brand garlic toast with spaghetti you made without red sauce because… well… your kids.

Let’s Eat with Grace and Grit

If you’re here looking for peace in your kitchen and purpose in your planning—you’re not alone. Let this monthly plan lift a burden from your shoulders.

    Closing Blessing:

May your dinners be hot, your kids eat at least half of them, and your heart rest in the truth that feeding a family is an act of love and worship. Whether it’s taco bowls or turkey wraps—He’s in the middle of it.

With hope (and an extra helping of grace),
